BIRTH LOCATION COMFORT INFLUENCES OUTCOMES
For some chosing homebirth, birth center or hospital is an easy decision. For others there are many factors to consider including insurance, cost, and travel distance. Wherever you map your birth location, we will work together in the prenatal time to fill you full of information about the unique aspects of that space, identify appropiate coping skills based on where you will be, and brainstorm visions and ideas for how to make your space a warm, comfortable nest fit for bringing your new little one earthside.
Organically Organized Unfolding Requires Comfort
Our goal is to work along side you in pregnancy, labor & birth, and the immediate postpartum to identify how you feel about your birth location, what shines for you about it and what holds discomfort. No matter your identified location, we will gather strategies to bringing the most potent version of yourself to this process of surrender and transformation.
Labor has great potential to unfold normally when accompanied by the key ingredients: quiet, comfort & dark. location plays a role in how those ingredients are accessed.
:: HOSPITAL ::
For some, birthing in a hospital is a heart centerd decision that offers extra layers of emotional support. For others, "choosing" the hospital has more to due to with insurance, money, or compromising with family. If this is you, we will invite you to use this primary discomfort as an opportunity to learn more about what it is you need in this process to feel safe, supported, comfortable, and empowered. We will work together to identify what information, beauty, and coping skills will help to facilitate a normal cascade of hormones in an environment that was not your number one choice. Points of Light Birth Doulas are happy to accompany you to one prenatal visit with your Midwife or Doctor in addition to our regular support.
:: HOMEBIRTH ::
Some may choose homebirth, while others may be bound it due to great proximity from a hospital. Whatever you reason, homebirth can feel equally empowering and scary. For most, the comfort of birthing around your everyday smells and colors and layout will give you ample opportunity to consider the functionality of the space, how you want to beautify it, and the safety and security that comes with it. Birthing at home means being able to engage in birthing practices that can be challenging to achieve in other locations. Points of Light Birth Doulas honor the possibility of homebirth transport, and will open that window with you. We also promise to meet with you and your Midwife/Midwives at least once across the prenatal time in addition to our regular support.
:: BIRTH CENTER ::
More often than not, when chosing a birth center it is selected as a number one choice. They have a homey feel, birth extras like tubs and comfty beds, and provide an intimate layer of continuous support in the day or days following birth. Points of Light Birth Doulas offer to meet with you and your birth team at the birth center once across the prenatal time in addition to our regular support.
One of the most important factors in deciding on a place to birth your baby is your overall feeling of safety. For my first birth, I felt the safest at an in-hospital birthing center. My most recent birth was in my home, and it felt like it was the safest choice for me and my baby.
