Points of Light Doulas have a unique style. We lean-in to the challenge of your process as it comes up, and simultaneously work to infuse a sense of connection, joy and spirit opening space for you to align with your experience in a meaningful way. Points of Light is grounded in trauma informed care, cultural competency, spiritful abundance, as well as touch and movement based practice. We promise to meet you where you are at and honor your process as it unfolds.
A doula supports you (and in some cases your main support person/people) as you navigating to new normal after a diagnosis, while you are in the depths of grief, or as you approach end-of-life. Support comes in many forms depending on your needs when we begin our work together. It can look like walks in nature, cooking together, doing art projects, movement, facilitation, and learning tips and tricks for navigating stress and trauma (among other things). The work we do together helps you (and your main support people) find meaning and ground in to a process that can feel strongly uprooting and uncertain.
The professional framework Points of Light operates under is different than hospice support, which typically offers medical and physical support of patients during end-of-life transition. Our work is less clinical and offers emotional support that connects grief and joy. We work with you to seek out what feels authentic and meaningful in this transition, whether that be to a place of new normal, through grief, or as you cross over death's threshold.
Points of Light Doulas are not qualified, certified or licensed to offer counseling care. We do not diagnose, and strongly suggest having a counselor you work closely with during your process of great transition if it is challenging to manage the tasks of daily life. Points of Light Doula Support will offer you the opportunity to chat confidentially, be supported emotionally, engage in self care techniques that help you navigate everyday stress, and be supported in ways that make the most sense for you during this time.
Short term or chronic exposure to stress, depression, anxiety and/or trauma can show up in any peak life experience and potentially become exacerbate or inflamed during this time. If you are navigating or have navigated such experiences in your life (including being linked to racism, sexism, transphobia, mental/emotional/physical/sexual trauma, living with mental health variances, etc.) Points of Light Doulas are happy to center emotional and practical support while also honoring your needs, preferences, and unique world view.
What you bring to this experience will be honored and appreciated. At every turn, Points of Light will seek to meet you where you are at. For some, unique needs are centered around appropriate use of gender pronouns and/or variant world views, while for others there are sensitivities ranging from needing lights to be kept low and/or having adverse reactions to strong scents. If you know you have specific requests please let us know as soon as you can so that we can do our best to adjust. We also recognize that systemic oppression often effects one financial situation. We promise to work in the ways we can to meet you and your needs with the financial resources you have or can raise on your behalf.

Points of Light Doula Support takes privacy incredibly seriously. We will never share information about you without your permission. We also promise to do our best to use as much security as possible when interfacing with you on the internet as well as when we are charting notes online about our visits. We are not mandatorily HIPPA compliant but strive to do as much as we can to protect your privacy.
The base of our practice is in the Portland metro area. However, in some cases we are happy to travel out of the Portland metro area. If you are outside of Portland, we charge a travel fee that is based on your location. We are happy to make it work, please do not let location be the only thing barrier to inquiring about support.
Luna was an incredible partner and especially helpful in providing information and clarifying options when we had to navigate more difficult decisions.

We recently had a family gathering at our home, to try and get care coordinated for my husband. It was a meeting that I dreaded, filled with people who love the same person, but have difficulty communicating. With Luna's facilitation, she kept us on track, held us to the time I had allocated, and steadfastly got to some points of agreement. Having her there to facilitate gave me the courage I needed to get through the meeting.
It makes me so happy to know Luna is providing doula support in our community!

Luna stepped in when our trusted support withdrew from us in our time of need. Luna got to know us and made us more comfortable with ourselves and each other. I appreciate how you were there for both and all of us.

My heart is happy to know Luna is in my community supporting families before, during and after the intensity of birth.

Luna spends time with my husband (living with Alzheimer's) regularly. Since I work full-time, I worry a lot. When Luna is here with him, those are the times I don't worry. He love spending time with her. She is open-hearted, treats him with dignity, and they get out of the hose and outside consistently. As a bonus, when I come home from work, dinner is ready to be finished off, and the dishwasher gets mysteriously filled or emptied. We both feel lucky to be Luna's clients!
Luna's advice throughout all these months made me feel prepared and confident.

Luna offered a warm, grounding, and heart-filled presence every step of the way.
